Plantar pressure distribution during gait and running in subjects with chronic ankle instability

چکیده
Background Lateral ankle sprains are one of the most common injuries in athletes. Up to 32% of subjects with an ankle sprain develop residual symptoms labeled as chronic ankle instability (CAI), with a significant impact on the quality of life. In spite of many research the underlying mechanisms for CAI remain unclear. The foot roll-off pattern of subjects with CAI is one of the factors which may play an important role in recurring ankle sprains and the presence of ‘giving way’ episodes. A more lateral pressure distribution has been suggested in subject with CAI, resulting in higher risk for developing an ankle sprain, but research is limited [1]. Especially in dynamic conditions research is needed. This study includes gait as well as a running

Comparing the Effects of Fatigue Caused by the Treadmill and Overground Running on the Pattern of Plantar Pressure Distribution
Purpose: This study aimed to compare the effects of fatigue due to overground and treadmill running on the plantar pressure distribution pattern. Methods: Twelve novice athletes (Mean±SD age=26.0±2.5 y, Mean±SD weight: 52.0±3.0 kg, Mean±SD height: 159.0±5.0 cm), without sports injuries over the past year, were selected. Overground and treadmill running created fatigue in the samples. Peak pla...

Background and Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare the effect of a period of balance and combination exercises (neuromuscular and stabilizing) on pain, functional characteristics and motor range of athlete women with chronic ankle instability. Materials and Methods: In this study, 30 female athletes with functional ankle instability were selected and randomly assigned into three...
متن کاملAnkle ROM and stiffness measured at rest and during gait in individuals with and without diabetic sensory neuropathy.
INTRODUCTION The purpose of our study was to examine the relationship between ankle dorsiflexion (DF) range of motion (ROM) and stiffness measured at rest (passively) and plantar loading during gait in individuals with and without diabetes mellitus (DM) and sensory neuropathy. Specifically, we sought to address three questions for this at-risk patient population: (1) Does peak passive DF ROM pr...
متن کاملMulti-segment foot landing kinematics in subjects with chronic ankle instability.
BACKGROUND Chronic ankle instability has been associated with altered joint kinematics at the ankle, knee and hip. However, no studies have investigated possible kinematic deviations at more distal segments of the foot. The purpose of this study was to evaluate if subjects with ankle instability and copers show altered foot and ankle kinematics and altered kinetics during a landing task when co...
